Bad news Bat-fans Bale has signed to do three Terminator Pics

Christian Bale is to play rebel leader John Connor in three sequels to the Terminator franchise, its producers have revealed.

The Welsh-born star, who is soon to be seen in Batman Begins sequel The Dark Knight, has already started shooting the first of those films, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.

“He’s really an actor’s actor, so we’re very proud,” said Victor Kubicek of film company Halcyon.

Charlie’s Angels director McG is directing the new film, which is due to be released on 22 May 2009.

“Christian was our first choice and he’s a big fan of The Terminator, so we’re very lucky,” Kubicek told the BBC at the Cannes Film Festival.

“But with Batman he’s already done the whole franchise thing, so we weren’t sure he’d respond.”

Luckily, said Kubicek’s business partner Derek Anderson, “he read the script and he loved it, so he’s signed on for all three.”

US rap star Common will also have a lead role in the film, as will Australian actor Sam Worthington, who will soon be seen in Titanic director James Cameron’s science-fiction epic Avatar.

The producers would not reveal whether Arnold Schwarzenegger would reprise his role as the Terminator. Nor would they discuss character names or plot details.”We can’t talk about the story points at all,” said Kubicek, adding the project was being kept strictly under wraps.

“Not everyone gets to see the script. They only see the part of the script that’s relevant to the job they’re doing.”

But the producers promised not to disappoint fans of the time-travelling franchise, which has also spawned TV series The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

“We’re both huge Terminator fans and we’re just approaching it from the point of view of what we’d like to see,” said Anderson.

“Any time we’re feeling pressure we just take a step back and say, as fans, ‘what would we like to see?’”

Roland Emmerich brings us 2012

John Cusack has signed on to topline Roland Emmerich’s apocalyptic thriller “2012” for Columbia Pictures.

“Redbelt” star Chiwetel Ejiofor also is in talks to join the big-budget epic, whose title refers to the end days of human civilization as foretold by the ancient Mayan calendar.

Story kicks off with a global cataclysm, which brings an end to the world as we know it, and chronicles the heroic struggle of the survivors.

Emmerich and Harald Kloser penned the screenplay, which Sony bought in February.

Shooting will begin in July in Los Angeles, barring a Screen Actors Guild strike.

Mark Gordon, Kloser and Larry Franco are producing. Emmerich is exec producing.

Cusack, who most recently starred in the horror film “1408,” will next be seen in satire “War, Inc.,” which he also wrote and produced. He is currently shooting “Shanghai” for the Weinstein Co.

The Major’s Thoughts - Well if you haven’t heard about 12.21.2012 you will it is the date in which the Mayans predict the end of the world. This plot point has been used from the X-files to Indiana Jones. I am glad Roland has jumped on the band wagon as well. I am going to make a couple of predictions. Get ready for nuts and crazies to be running around saying the end is near (that is nothing new except this will be “news”). 2012 will bring back memories of how bad Indy 4 was with crystal skulls and bad cgi. Indy 5 will be in preproduction because they couldn’t end the Indy movies on that bad of a note. Which might make the end of the world really happen if you mix in two Hobbit movies. Maybe the Mayans did know something about the future. Of course this could just be one of two tablets kind of like the end of a calendar then another one starts. If in a 500 years someone finds a computer and turns it on and uses the calendar function, the calendar only goes to 2099. I wonder if people will think, that we thought that was the end of the world, and will they be making bad sci-fi about it.

Peace out MajorXero

Blackbeard biopic, is it just me or does this sound boring?

DreamWorks is bringing a project on the life of legendary pirate Blackbeard to the bigscreen.

David Franzoni, who wrote “Amistad” and “Gladiator” for the studio, will pen “Blackbeard,” which delves into the life of British buccaneer Edward Teach.

Barry Josephson (”Enchanted”) is producing alongside motivational speaker and former Philadelphia 76ers prexy/co-owner Pat Croce, who wrote “Pirate Soul,” a book that chronicled the golden era of piracy, which spanned 1690-1730.

Idea for the project was hatched when Josephson enlisted Croce to make a cameo in his 2002 basketball pic “Like Mike.” Croce, who also penned the upcoming kids book “My Pop-Pop Is a Pirate,” waited until December 2006 to send Josephson a treatment for the film. The pair brought aboard Franzoni, who began working on the pitch after the writers strike ended.

Croce, who owns a pirate museum in Key West, Fla., is collaborating closely with Franzoni on the screenplay.

Denise Radovanov is exec producing.

Josephson recently wrapped the sci-fi family adventure “They Came From Upstairs” for 20th Century Fox, where he has a first-look deal. He and Croce also teamed on the syndicated reality show “Pat Croce: Moving In” for Sony Pictures Television.

Franzoni’s recent credits include a draft of “Childhood’s End,” based on the Arthur C. Clarke novel

Indy 5 - Lucas talks! Spielberg listens, Ford smiles and Shia crosses his fingers!

In recent interview with Fox News, George Lucas, mentioned the idea of a fifth installment to the Indiana Jones franchise. Lucas’ ideas revolves around Shia Lebeouf’s character Mutt Williams being the lead.

“I haven’t even told Steven or Harrison this,” Lucas told Fox News. “But I have an idea to make Shia [LeBeouf] the lead character next time and have Harrison [Ford] come back like Sean Connery did in the last movie. I can see it working out.”

Lebeouf seems to be interested in the idea of reprising his role of Mutt and is most likely locked into a sequel just in case one was to be made. Also with the recent article in GQ, Spileberg seems to have a soft spot for him making him Steve’s next Tom Hanks or even Harrison Ford.

“I don’t think a Mutt spinoff would be as big as Indiana Jones,” LaBeouf told MTV. “[But] fingers crossed!”

Red Dawn Remake! Fused Film has some ideas!

“In Our Time No Foreign Army has ever Occupied American Soil…Until Now”

This was the theme from the 1984 film Red Dawn, a film that really harnessed a culture staring down the barrel of the Cold War and really exploring the idea of Soviet invasion on American soil.

Currently MGM is exploring the idea to remake the classic film. As mentioned before the movie centered around an attack on American soil by communist forces. In the film 1980’s “brat packers”, Patrick Swayze, Charlie Sheen, C. Thomas Howell, Lea Thompson and Jennifer Grey played American teenagers that are forced to become guerilla soldiers to protect their way of life and the freedom of America.

Other than post-apocolyptic films I really like these type of movies where unexpected heroes arise to do something great.

So with this news we at the Fused Film Blog couldn’t be happier about this due to the fact it is a film very close to mine and MajorXero’s heart. Behind the blog we have been screaming remake of this movie for awhile and with the current US situation, the war in Iraq and terrorism this movie can be done. So how do you keep Red Dawn in the title of film where soviets aren’t the threat. “Red” can mean other things besides Communism like “blood”. There was lots of blood and death in the original movie and you can harness that in the movie. All you would need is one line to say “after the attack by Arab soldiers on US soil, this day came to known among us as Red Dawn because this was the day that blood spilt over the entire US changing us forever.” Another idea about this is to focus the threat on maybe China or North Korea partnering with the Middle Eastern forces and invading.

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian Review!

“All you know is about to change”

This is the quote that rings through Prince Caspian’s ears as he races off through the forests of Narnia to save himself from his tyrannical uncle, King Miraz.

The line is also appropriate for the film because a lot can change in a sequel some good and some bad. Prince Caspian, the second Chronicles of Narnia book written by C.S. Lewis is an interesting story shift from the Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and the film really harnesses that shift. Perhaps the best way to review this film is to take it in sections.

Cast - the 4 Pevensie children return to Narnia 1,000 years later in Narnian time but only 1 year later in standard Earth time. Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy are returned by their respective actors and this time their acting craft has matured as have the characters. Perhaps the best thing I liked about the Pevensie children in this story is that they look at Narnia and the events happening differently than in previous film. The actors portray that convincingly with rougher more stylized action and stunts but also clearer and more convincing delivery of dialog that was somewhat dodgy in the first movie. The other bright spots in the cast had to have been Prince Caspian himself played by, Ben Barnes, who really took to his character and really made you believe in him as Caspian, a rogue Telmarine runaway surviving his uncle to take his true place as King of Narnia. Other notables are Eddie Izzard lending his voice talents to the courageous mouse soldier, Reepicheep but also King Miraz himself played by Italian actor, Sergio Castellitto. Perhaps the most enjoyable other than these characters was Peter Dinklage as Rumpkin, the cynical Dwarf who meets the Pevensies upon their return to Narnia.

More GI JOE pics!

Remember the cartoon version of GI JOE and they had the “More than you Know” GI JOE PSA’s after the show. They should have one for Stephen Sommers relating to destroying iconic images.

I have been saying all along how this movie is screwed from the beginning and after pics have been released we have had our suspicions confirmed that some of those casted in this movie do not make sense. I mean Destro is the only one I like thus far and that is probably because Christopher Eccelston is my first Doctor.

Anyway here are some more sad disappointing images from GI JOE : The Movie.

Kirk is Back! - “The Needs of the Many Outweigh the Needs of the Few, or the One”

That classic Wrath of Khan quote is kind of appropriate when you think about Shatner being in the next Star Trek movie. I mean it seems a majority of people want to happen so if  I was JJ Abrams I would bow to needs, wants and hearts of the many rather than the few or the one.

So this is post that has been done many a time in many different ways. Let me say again that Denny Crain in all is tubby, Priceline Negotiator glory will appear in the next Star Trek movie in some way. Let’s be realistic, first, it would give fans something to smile about as well as comfort them about J.J. Abrams quips about how he isn’t making this movie for fans. This would be the perfect opportunity for him to and I quote some of our readers comments,

“he is a GENIOUS when it comes to the plot thickening or going in the complete opposite direction.” - Fused Film Reader - Lt. CMDR TYLER

In public relations and communication strategy practitioners often use a form of misleading called “doublespeak” this where people deliberately say one thing to throw the audience off in a completely other direction. JJ Abrams has mastered this tactic time and time again. I can almost guarantee you that if you really analyze his comments surrounding the film you draw upon this notion that we will be surprised to see Shatner’s Kirk in the upcoming film. Also notice you haven’t heard the iconic pervert ( I mean that in a good way) say anything recently about not being in the film, notice you haven’t really heard much from the production of the movie that started filming last December, notice the actors are very good in front of the media almost mirroring the same comments and language saying the same thing. This is classic tight libbed staying on message tactics.

You can expect everyone associated with this film to be tight libbed due to the fact that legalities for leaking things are harsher, directors and producers are almost like political officios at the White House where the interns, peons and lowest of the low only know what they need to know and are so far out the loop they do not know the overall picture. (Trust me I used to be congressional intern - I only knew what they told me). Actors and Actresses in high profile films only get sections of there scripts now and they sometimes have a guy that watches them when they have it and make them lock it up and all kinds of things like that.

Pellicano convicted of racketeering? One man’s racketeering is another man’s paparazzi!

A Los Angeles federal jury has convicted Hollywood private investigator Anthony Pellicano of racketeering in a scheme that prosecutors say used wiretaps and other illegal tactics to target the rich and famous.

Other verdicts are still being read Thursday that deal with wiretapping, conspiracy and other charges.

A Letter to Chris Nolan - Riddle Me This and Riddle Me that Mr. Nolan

Dear Mr. Nolan,

So I was driving home form work yesterday and I happened to be thinking about movies…weird right? Well doing this as I often do I happened to be thinking about your “realistic” Bat-verse and who would make a good Riddler in that world. I was then trying to come up with a way of how you could portray that character in that world that would fit.

So here goes my pitch. First off, Dave Tennant, in my mind could pull my idea off and has the youth and acting skill for this role. So let’s start with the character type I have in mind. First off, The Riddler, in this Bat-verse has to be somebody that we could see in real life so you have to take some liberties with the look. I am thinking a faded-green suit, almost tweed looking. I believe this look combined with an almost Hannibal Lector mentality and intelligence to him could work. Secondly, I think he should have some question mark tattoos either on his wrists, arms, face or a massive one on his chest. You can keep the same feel of the character by having him tip off his murders with riddles but you make him an almost serial killer type but in a secondary fashion. Two-Face it seems will be a primary villain in the 3rd film but you could easily make The Riddler a secondary character being used by Two-Face as a diversion, almost like Scare-Crow was in Batman-Begins or he could be acting alone creating an even more complicated conflict for Batman to handle much like in the Dark Victory graphic novel.

So now Mr. Nolan I hope you have a good sense of the look I have in mind. Let’s talk about the type acting style Tennant can portray. I am a fan of Doctor Who and seeing him on that show you can see he is talented but you can also see that his range allows you to take him in many different directions. As the Riddler, and I mentioned this before, I see him as a cunning, uncontrolled, almost conflicted murderer who has to use Riddles. His intelligence is conveyed almost like Hannibal Lector’s is in Silent of the Lambs or Man-hunter. I see Tennant being able to portray this type of character in convincing way. He also is massively obsessive compulsive and that compulsion is his madness. His name should stay true to the original and be Edward Nashton as well. Also by doing all the aforementioned things you can still stay true to the original idea of the Riddler, being that his criminal compulsion for riddles is so deeply ingrained into his personality that he is virtually powerless to stop himself from acting it out. He cannot simply kill his opponents when he has the upper hand; he has to put them in a deathtrap to see if he can devise a life and death intellectual challenge that the hero cannot solve and escape. However, unlike many of Batman’s themed enemies, his compulsion is quite flexible, allowing him to commit any crime as long as he can describe it in a riddle or puzzle. (Draw upon Saw maybe except not as elaborate…maybe use some leftover material from Insomnia…you know that movie well and even Memento…I am sure your brother as some good thoughts as well).

So there you have it. Dave Tennant playing a secondary serial killer archetype, who has a compulsion for riddles. He is estranged in a way but cunning and intelligent that even Batman’s own intellectual prowess is strained dealing with him. You can make him a means to an end the film enough to where he doesn’t overshadow Two-Face and his plan to kill Batman and destroy Gotham or whatever. I leave that part of the story planning to you.

Anyway, that is what I typically think about on my 30 minute drive home from my office.

Take Care,

Kevin (Kent) Coll

  • Our choice for the Riddler in the up coming Batman 8, yes 8 count them from Tim Burton.
  • When was the last time you saw a really good movie or even a really good actor.
  • Endless blogs on why Shatner will be in and should be in the rebooted Star Trek
  • How can they make two Hobbit movies?
  • And I’m saving the best for last, us being very smug about being right about how terrible Indy 4 will be(was).

I can see it now Fraggle Rock in 3-D and CGI, down to Fraggle Rock

The Weinstein Co. will turn the Jim Henson series “Fraggle Rock” into a live-action musical feature.

Cory Edwards, who directed the animated “Hoodwinked!” for TWC, will helm the picture and write the screenplay. The Jim Henson Co. will produce and TWC will distribute. 'Fraggle Rock'

Just like the series, the film will be populated by a mix of human characters and Fraggle Rock puppets. TWC co-chair Harvey Weinstein, who has been steering his company more aggressively into the family film arena, made the marriage with Lisa Henson, who runs JHC with her co-CEO brother, Brian Henson.

Ahmet Zappa will be exec producer with Brian Inerfeld.

Pic will take the core characters Gobo, Wembley, Mokey, Boober and Red outside of their home in Fraggle Rock, where they interact with humans, which they think are aliens. The show premiered on HBO in 1983, ran five seasons and was broadcast in more than 80 countries. It posted strong sales recently when the first three seasons were released on DVD.

The deal furthers the relationship between TWC and the “Hoodwinked!” creative team. Edwards is reteaming with “Hoodwinked!” co-writer Tony Leech on the animated alien adventure “Escape From Planet Earth,” on which Leech is making his directing debut.

Edwards is separately developing a live-action feature adaptation of Cedar Fair’s Halloween Haunt franchise, designed to be shot in 3-D by Kerner Optical and produced by Davis Entertainment, Dave Phillips and Tracey Edmonds. That pic is looking for a backer.

“One of our main priorities when we first launched the Weinstein Company was to feature a broad range of family-friendly franchises like ‘Fraggle Rock,’ ” Weinstein said.

Marvel Studios: The Future of film in film product placement!

So probably one of mine and MajorXero’s favorite blog sites besides Geeks of Doom and of course us is Slashfilm!

Recently they had a post regarding a picture released from the new Incredible Hulk film. In one of the photos released it shows a first look at the super serum that will be (or was) used to create the superhero known as Captain America. This sounds like a logical idea because in the newest trailer we see, William Hurt’s, General Thunderbolt Ross telling Tim Roth’s, Emil Blonsky about a weapons program initiated during World War II to create a “super soldier” before giving him the injection.

When this development surfaced with fans website First Showing got into the mix confirming that Captain America’s red, white and blue shield appears near the 1 hr 30 min mark in Iron Man.

So what does all this mean? Certainly after IronMan we saw Nick Fury and the Avenger Initiative was clearly stated. Slashfilm asked, “Is this a Sight gag or is this all part of Marvel’s new franchise design? How do you feel about Stark possibly being the inventor of Captain America’s shield?”

New GI JOE pics!

Well Stephen Sommers used be the type of director I typically admire. He is a guy who I saw make fun movies. Remember, The Mummy? that movie wasn’t a great movie but it was everything you go to movies for. Comedy, Action, Drama all wrapped into one with a decent story that everyone can enjoy.

When they announced he was directing a GI JOE movie I was glad. I thought he would be able to make a decent GI JOE movie with all the elements. After looking at our spoilers I realized the story wasn’t going to be that great, it won’t be bad but not great. Then the first cast pics came out. Snake Eyes looked good but then I saw Duke, Ripcord and others and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Everyone else looks absolutely terrible. I have a feeling this movie is going to blow simply because the look of the characters I can’t get past. However, I have a feeling I will like Christopher Eccelston as Destro and he doesn’t look half bad in the picture I can’t wait to see how he looks with the mask.

So without further ado more disappointing pics of probably disappointing movie.
